Update on Agreement: MUT now awaiting reaction from Ministry on proposals
The MUT wrote to the Minister for Education and Employment with reference to the reporting of a press conference whereby the Minister is stating that the delay in the conclusion of the agreement was due to the MUT’s leadership contest. The Union noted that the Ministry failed to mention the general election, which delayed all agreements including the ones negotiated with ITS and MCAST. The Ministry also failed to mention that the MUT and MEDE held the last negotiations meeting on the sectoral agreement three weeks ago and that the MUT has adhered to tight deadlines throughout the summer months to provide its detailed proposals for improved working conditions and salaries. However, the Ministry has now failed to give a reaction to the Union by the deadline agreed, which was 11th September, and three weeks after this deadline the Union has not received any reaction.
While the Union requested that all facts are mentioned regarding delays in negotiations, it is now waiting for the Ministry’s reaction to the proposals submitted by the Union. Meanwhile the MUT will be holding its consultation exercise once there is a first draft of the new agreement.
