The Malta Union of Teachers (MUT) in a press conference today commemorated its 96th Anniversary – which falls on 22nd November – with a series of educational activities.
The main activity is a National Conference, being held this Saturday 21st November 2015 on the topic “Vocational Education in and beyond Secondary Schools”. Topics will range from VET subjects in Secondary Schools, the validity and structures of VET qualifications in Malta and Europe, on VET in relation to local institutions including MCAST and ITS and the idea of trade schools. Discussion topics will also include Academic Post-Secondary Education including MATSEC, the Learning Outcomes Framework and the National Curriculum Framework. The key-note speeches will be delivered by Ms. Agnes Roman, Advisor and Expert at the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) and Prof. Ronald Sultana from the University of Malta. Other speakers will include MUT officials and representatives of the Directorates, the Ministry and other important stakeholders. The Union shall also present the results of a survey on the theme.
Furthermore, the Youth Section of the MUT is launching an art exhibition at the MUT foyer with the aim of promoting youth creativity. This exhibition will be open to the general public throughout the month of November. Also, the MUT will, by the end of the year, be launching a new portal for www.mut.org.mt. Apart from a total redesign, this portal will contain personalised sections and services accessible only to MUT members.
Meanwhile, MUT activities will start on Thursday with an activity for retired members, on Friday evening with a thanksgiving mass and a reception in which the MUT Council, delegates and distinguished persons in the education sector are invited.
