The MUT is declaring a trade dispute with the Ministry for Education and Sport regarding coursework being requested by MATSEC for the next scholastic year. The MUT requested a meeting with the Ministry for Education and Sport and the National Literacy Agency on requirements of the Reading Recovery programme followed by a group of teachers. Meanwhile, affected teachers are directed to stick to the requirements of their contracts as that is the only binding document in force.

The MUT is hereby clarifying that the union does not have any agreement with the Ministry about coursework being requested by MATSEC for the next scholastic year. The union has always made it clear that educators are not employed by MATSEC and has always objected about situations where MATSEC gave directions to educators in schools. […]
