Update on Jacuzzi Issue at Helen Keller Resource centre
The MUT wrote to the DG DES after the Union was informed that the Helen Keller Resource centre is blaming teachers and LSAs for the lack of use of the Jacuzzi and that this message is being conveyed to parents to put pressure on educators. In view of this, the Union noted that members are following a directive of the MUT and this directive has been in place for a number of months. The Union stated that the issue is due to the decision of the school to refrain from using chlorine and from providing satisfactory water testing results to users, probably due to the use of the Jacuzzi water as grey water for plants. According to information provided, the Jacuzzi facility, which is practically a very small cistern the size of kids’ inflatable pool, has in the past years failed water tests conducted. The Union has therefore decided to keep the directive in place and is expecting that all undue pressure on members stops with immediate effect. Also, the Union is expecting that water test results are carried out and reported by a competent authority. Meanwhile the directive remains in force.
