Updated – The MUT is clarifying the position of Senior Teacher following the call issued by the Education Ministry:
The MUT is updating the clarification issued about the position of Senior Teacher following questions received. In addition to the Q&A issued, the union clarifies that:
i.No allowance shall be removed upon obtaining the position of senior teacher with the exception of the 17+ allowance as stipulated in the call
ii.One duty shall be assigned to Senior Teachers from the list issued in the call. This duty needs to be agreed upon between the Senior Teacher and the Head of School.
iii. No Senior Teacher will be requested to give any money back.
iv. The selection process will not lead to ranking but to a pass/fail as per colloquium procedures.
1.Who can apply?
All state school teachers who are eligible can apply.
2.Does it apply to teachers in Church schools?
We communicated with the SfCE to initiate the process to issue calls for Senior Teachers in Church schools.
3.Will one Senior Teacher be chosen per school?
No, there is no limit about the number of Senior Teachers per school.
4.Can a teacher be deployed due to the appointment to a Senior Teacher?
No, there cannot be deployment due to the appointment.
5.Will it affect posts of responsibility such as Teacher Librarian, Guidance Teacher etc?
No, it will not affect posts of responsibility as a Senior Teacher can remain a Teacher Librarian, Guidance Teacher etc.
6.Will it affect the Resource Teacher or Peripatetic posts?
No, It will not affect Resource Teacher or Peripatetic posts.
7.Will a Senior teacher do the work of a Head of Department or Deputy Head?
No, the duties are not the same.
8.Will the take home pay decrease when appointed Senior Teacher?
No, the take home pay cannot decrease when appointed or in the future.
9.Will the 20+ allowance be lost when appointed Senior Teacher?
No, the 20+ allowance will be retained.
10.If I get the post of Senior Teacher, can I refuse the post after starting the work?
Yes you can revert to the post of Teacher.
