The MUT declares its mistrust in the fact-finding committee of the Education Ministry – issues directives
In a communication to the Education Ministry, the MUT has declared its mistrust in the fact-finding committee appointed by the Ministry to gather information regarding a student’s aggression in a school in Gozo, which left an educator with hand fractures. Rather than gathering information as per its remit, the fact finding-committee, which is other than independent, is trying to shift the blame on educators as confirmed to the union by the multiple witnesses who have been summoned by the committee last week. The committee has overstepped its remit, by passing judgements on the work of educators, by trying to attribute shortcomings to educators and by its heavily biased investigation based on prejudgements of the case. The MUT has no trust in the fact-finding committee, which is acting as a face-saver for the Ministry by throwing educators under the bus. To this effect, the MUT declares its mistrust in the committee and is directing all educators to refrain from communicating in any way with the committee. The union considers this situation as very serious.
