Risk assessment in State Schools carried out by incompetent individuals – MUT directive
During the past years, the Ministry for Education has outsourced the risk assessment process carried out in schools to a private company. The union objected a number of times regarding the mediocre service that is being provided to schools, whereby schools’ risk assessments are being carried out without even conducting visits in schools, assessment of employees on maternity are being carried out without even talking with the expecting mother whilst the company carrying out assessments is using a copy-paste procedure through standard templates whilst filling only minor details to provide certification. The incompetence of the service has now reached another level through the arrogance of personnel issuing orders to school administrators as if they are their employees.
The situation is untenable and the MUT is hereby directing all educators to refrain from communicating with the said company or its representatives. Meanwhile, it is the responsibility of the Ministry, as the license holder in State Schools, to ensure that school premises and personnel are covered with valid risk assessments carried out by competent persons.
