Replacement of Teachers by SMT members
The MUT is informed that a number of SMT members are being requested to replace teachers due to the number of teachers in quarantine or on sick leave. The Union has discussed this issue at length prior to the re-opening of schools and has been assured that the direction shall be that whenever there are no teachers to cover classes, students shall remain home and teaching shall be shifted online where applicable. This has happened in a number of classes, but there are still reports that SMT members are covering absences. The union has objected with the Ministry about it and action is being taken. SMT members who are being requested to take classes in such situations are requested to report the matter to the union for action to be taken.
