Updated 28 June at 18.46. Press Release – Reaction to PQ on resignation of Educators from State Schools

The MUT refers to media reports about the data provided by the Education Ministry in reply to a Parliamentary Question. The MUT has anticipated and announced earlier this year that there shall be an increase in the number of resignations of Educators following the pandemic. The MUT is concerned about the quoted figures of almost a hundred resignations of Educators from the State Sector. Surely, this data requires analysis of figures, and also of individual resignations. The MUT has communicated with the Education Ministry requesting more detailed information. Whilst all resignations require analysis, there must be a distinction between resignations from one sector due to an employment offer in another Educational sector; and resignations due to career changes or other reasons. The Union has also requested the Ministry to use the exit interview information to provide a better understanding of the situation. Whilst these numbers are concerning, the MUT is also concerned by reports of Educators who are requesting to return to the State Sector following resignations and are having their requests being refused. This does not augur well to the pledge to attract educators to return to the profession.

Update: The Education Ministry provided additional information to MUT regarding these resignations and also information about new employments of educators. The information shall be discussed.
