Press Release: New International School proposed by the Government – MUT expresses concerns
Following the announcement by the Government related to the setting up of an international school at the site of the old military hospital in Mtarfa, the MUT has written to the Minister for Education and Employment on behalf of educators at independent schools to show its concerns about the situation. The MUT asked about the viability and sustainability of having an additional school, especially regarding the effect it will leave on the independent school sector in Malta. The MUT asks whether a study has been conducted on the feasibility and impact of such a school before issuing the expression of interest.
Also, the Union asked about the requirements and standards of the new school and is questioning who shall be recruited to teach at this school. The MUT asked whether the winner of the contract will be coming from the educational sector to avoid a repeat of other recent experiences which were not exactly successful in having a proper educational institution up and running.
