The MUT has registered a trade dispute with the University of Malta since the university is not respecting the decision of the industrial tribunal regarding recognition and negotiations of the new agreement. The MUT has always respected the decision issued in 2007. The disagreement between the University and MUT regarding proposals of the new agreement being negotiated led the university to stop negotiations in July following a claim for recognition from UMASA. It is evident that this has been orchestrated to force the MUT to agree to clauses which are highly objectionable and which would be detrimental to existing and future employees of the university. The union is holding the University of Malta responsible for the delay in continuing negotiations and shall be firm in its position to defend the interest of its members.
