MUT objects to Mystery Shoppers in further and higher educational institutions

The MUT has communicated with the Ministry for Education and Employment after it was informed that Mystery Shoppers have been visiting higher educational institutions and are reporting about their visits. In one particular instance, the MUT has evidence that a student who enrolled in a course is acting as a Mystery Shopper, taking evidence from lessons including photographic records. The MUT made is clear that such practices are unacceptable and that the Union shall resort to industrial action unless this practice is stopped. The MUT has already tackled the matter in the past, when Mystery Shoppers were being proposed and were going to visit schools. Following the intervention of the Union, this practice was stopped by MEDE. The MUT now expects the same principle is upheld for further and higher educational institutions.

In a reply, the Permanent Secretary thanked the MUT for informing him about the situation and communicated with the authority in question to stop this particular exercise. The MUT however still expects the whole practice to stop.
