MUT meets members of the National Book Council

The MUT met the National Book Council in a cordial introductory meeting during which the issue of publishing copyright was discussed, particularly in the context of the new centralisation of photocopying in State Schools. The MUT has agreed to raise awareness on the issue of copyright, especially to make it easy to understand what is lawfully accepted and what is not in terms of photocopying of books and textbooks. Apart from authors getting their dues and protection according to copyright and intellectual property regulations as per law, the MUT is aware that this issue is closely tied to the sustainability of the local publishing industry and their continued efforts to provide local publications of the highest quality. On the other hand, the MUT reiterated the fact that the issues that it has with centralisation of printing/photocopying are not in any way related to issues of copyright and that this new centralisation method is about to bring a bureaucratic nightmare at all schools where it is introduced. Updates on these issues to follow as separate items.
