LOF implementation to be postponed and PD sessions on subject temporarily stopped

The Ministry for Education and Employment and the MUT have issued the following joint press release following discussions during the last days:

The Ministry for Education and Employment together with the Malta Union of Teachers wish to inform educators that negotiations on the Sectoral Agreement for State Schools are in progress. The Learning Outcomes Framework (2015), which emerges from the National Curriculum Framework (2012), forms an integral part of current negotiations. With the common intent of allowing more time for discussions between parties to mature and to support a more thorough preparation of educators at College, School and Classroom level, it is being agreed that the gradual introduction of the LOF with learners will start in scholastic year 2017-2018 if both parties reach a new Sectoral Agreement. For this purpose, parties are setting up a working group to jointly finalise the comprehensive implementation plan for the Learning Outcomes Framework (LOF).

Meanwhile, MEDE and the MUT have agreed that all professional development training sessions on the LOF will be temporarily stopped until this working group finalises the LOF implementation plan and an agreement on both is reached. MEDE and MUT reiterate that, whilst valuing the opportunity being offered by the LOF, as any other tool its effectiveness is reliant on the disposition, skillful hands and commitment of dedicated educators who are being recognised as the main actors in providing equity and quality education to all learners.
