Laptops to be retained by educators in State Schools while on leave

Following discussions between the MUT and MEDE, the policy of returning laptops when an educator goes on leave has now changed. The revised policy states that the Directorates will now stop collecting laptops unless it is a case of a resignation from employment or a retirement from the job. As the Union knows very well, educators on leave still need the laptop to keep abreast in the educational fields of interest. Also, the practice of receiving a used laptop when educators return to their employment was not seen to be favourable, especially when the laptop with visible wear and tear is given. This change in policy will now solve all these issues as the educator can keep the laptop during all types of leave, including parental, career break, responsibility leave and other leave. The policy comes into effect as from 27th September 2016.
