Top-up clarification (PGCE and B.Ed (Hons.))
The MUT refers to the communication issued by the University of Malta regarding the new qualification at MQF 7 offered to PGCE and B.Ed.(Hons.) holders. The Union clarifies that this new qualification will not alter in any way the employment of PGCE or B.Ed (Hons.) holders, their warrant and their seniority. Whilst the Union shall not discourage anyone from seeking to further their qualification, the Union is clarifying any false impression that this qualification would lead to an advancement in the teaching stream. The requirement for teaching and warranting is already possessed in full by PGCE and B.Ed.(Hons.). Holders of this new qualification at MQF7 will qualify for qualification allowance unless they are in possession of another qualification at MQF7.
The MUT communicated with the University of Malta and requested a meeting with the Faculty of Education to seek clarifications about the course content.
The Union reiterates what it stated in the past, that high officials outside the sector who are not versed in Education are dismantling the Education sector through their decisions leading to anomalies which are corrected with unwarranted decisions.
