Parents expecting Schools to accept late or invalid medical certificates to receive the €400 child benefits – Directive to Heads of Schools

The MUT is informed that a number of parents are going to schools with late or invalid medical certificates to cover students’ absences in order to receive the €400 benefit recently introduced. Reports received from schools indicate that this occurred since parents, who contacted Social Security offices, were told to go to schools to seek adjustments. This is unacceptable as schools are sticking to directions issued by the Directorates. The MUT is thus directing all Heads of Schools and SMT members to refuse to meet parents with such queries and to direct them back to the Social Security offices who issue these benefits. Any pressure related to this directive should be reported to the Union.
