Paid Carers’ leave – implementation (updated)
The MUT notes the announcement by the Government of the three days Paid Carers’ leave that can be utilised by government employees to take care of sick family members or members in the same household. This measure has been requested by the MUT and its confederation For.U.M. for years and is most welcome. The MUT communicated with the Education Ministry to discuss the implementation of this measure which is effective from 1st January 2025.
Update. MUT met with the Education Ministry regarding the implementation of this measure and it shall be implemented as follows:
The employee uses the normal channels (like the reporting of sick leave or emergency leave) to inform the respective line manager about the absence from work (Paid Carers’ leave)
The employees requests the medical doctor (GP) to write a note certifying that the employee was absent from work to take care of the sick member in the same household.
The respective note is provided by the employee to the line manager upon the return to the workplace.
