The MUT has communicated with the educational authorities regarding serious shortcomings in the sanitary infrastructure at Paola Primaries A and B. The situation has been going on for months whereby the water pressure in these schools is making sanitary facilities practically useless. The MUT received reports that educators are being forced to use public convenience in the area outside the school in the absence of water supplies in the schools. This is a serious shortcoming which is not only a risk hazard to educators but also to students attending these schools, especially in a period where the authorities are recommending frequent hand washing to prevent sickness. Some practical lessons are also being cancelled.
In view of the situation, the MUT issued an ultimatum to the Ministry of Education on Friday 7th February. If the problem is not solved by the ultimatum date, the MUT shall issue a directive to all educators in these two schools to refrain from reporting to the schools on Tuesday 11th February 2020.
