MUT declares trade dispute with the University of Malta on agreement for academic staff
The MUT has communicated with the Rector at the University of Malta to inform him that it is declaring a Trade Dispute with the university. The union stated that, following months of negotiations on the agreement for academic staff at the University of Malta, it is evident that the situation is at a standstill on a variety of issues. The main issue is that the university is not accepting the basic principle of recognising PhDs for progression of lecturing grades at the Junior College. This is a principle adopted by all institutions who have agreements with the MUT and the University of Malta is discriminating by failing to recognise this. There are also other pending issues in the said negotiations. The MUT has therefore declared a trade dispute. More information on the way forward as the situation develops.
