The MUT was in communication with the Ministry for Education, Sports, Youths, Research and Innovation after it received reports from a number of schools whereby they cannot make use of their facilities since they are still used as stores for Covid-related materials by the Government. This includes a number of school halls, which still cannot be utilised by schools.
The union stated that while it understands that this is a matter of central Government requirements, the schools are now operating in accordance with the pre-Covid measures and require all the space and facilities which were available to them pre-Covid. This issue is affecting school functions which are usually held indoors during inclement weather and is also affecting indoor physical education and sports activities. Furthermore, schools carry out a number of activities ahead of and during the Christmas period and they shall be impeded from their organisation if their halls and other facilities cannot be utilised.
The MUT asked the Ministry to look into the issue and to take action as necessary to resolve it.
