Laptops issue in Church Schools still unresolved – Union to escalate matters

The MUT has been making representations for months about the pending issue of laptops for KGAs and LSAs in church schools and is once again in contact with the DG DES at the Ministry for Education and Employment and the Secretariat for Catholic Education about the matter. Some weeks ago the Union was informed that the discussions between the DES and the Secretariat were concluded and that a formal approval was on the way. However, the MUT is now informed that there is disagreement between them on some clause which refers to teachers and not KGAs and LSAs. This means that MUT members, including KGAs and LSAs, are still waiting to be supplied the requested tools to carry out their duties while their colleagues in State schools received their laptops 22 months ago.

In its communication, the MUT requested both the DES and the Secretariat’s office to solve this issue without any further delay and stated that failure to do so will lead the Union to take measures to safeguard the conditions of work of its members in church schools. The Union will be informing members about these measures in the coming weeks.
