Following a lengthy conciliation meeting held late on Thursday, the MUT and MEDE came to an agreement on an action plan for Ħamrun Senior School. The plan has a list of several measures, some of which will come into effect by next Monday. The plan includes the assignment of a number of students with challenging behaviour to alternative learning programmes, the strengthening of the school management team, a revision of the school’s behaviour policy, deployment of additional teachers, deployment of a receptionist with security/monitoring duties, an overhaul of correctional measures which are leaving no or adverse effects, and others. The Union members of the school, while noting that it is a pity that action is only taken when the MUT orders industrial action, voted to postpone Monday’s industrial action to give a chance to the new Director General to implement these measures during the coming three weeks. In this light the MUT is temporarily suspending and postponing Monday’s planned industrial action while expecting the commitments taken by MEDE to be maintained to the full.
