The MUT has communicated with the Minister for Education and Employment on behalf of members at Sliema Boys Secondary. The Union stated that members at this school have, for the past months, been reporting an extremely difficult situation which is very similar to the experience reported last year at Ħamrun Boys Secondary. The Union asked the Ministry and all the relevant authorities to urgently investigate many issues including extremely terrible behaviour of many students who harass, fight, disobey and disregard authority, ineffectiveness of the SMT who are unable to control the situation, and a chronic lack of support at College level including a lack of prefect of discipline. All this is leading educators at this school to feel demoralised and unhappy, especially when they find themselves with little, if any, support. In this regard, the MUT asked the Ministry to urgently take stock of this situation and take all necessary measures to rectify the issues in as short a time as possible. The Union stated that the fact that this school is phasing out does not mean that the educators and students there deserve less support or attention.
The Union concluded that it will be issuing directives to its members at this school if the situation remains unchanged by Monday 14th December. The Union appeals for very urgent and effective intervention.
