Directives for Members at MCAST and Church Schools

Following the declaration of disputes with MCAST and Church authorities as published here, the MUT notes that on some issues little progress has been achieved and has no option but to issue directives as follows:

a) MCAST – dispute on the process of recognition of technical grades
All persons in technician grades should not reply to telephone calls or emails except in cases of emergency/health and safety;
All persons in technician grades should not remain working during their break time;
All lecturers are not to take charge of workshop/laboratory sessions if technicians are not available.

b) Church schools – dispute on the issue of laptops for LSAs and KGAs
Since LSAs and KGAs in Church schools where they have not been provided with laptops are considered by their employers as second class employees, then they are to refrain from attending any staff meetings, PD sessions, SDP sessions, or take part in any school related committee. Exempted from these directives are persons on a definite contract, probation and KGAs or LSAs who have been provided with laptops.

Directives are applicable as from Monday 3rd October 2016 and will be in force until further notice.

Meanwhile, progress has been made at MCAST in relation to the progression to Senior Lecturer and the Union, as a gesture of goodwill, is postponing further separate directives related to the progression issue for a further week to wait for further developments.
