The MUT wrote to the Director for Educational Services in Church Schools as it appears that some schools have been approached by persons from the Secretariat to perform literacy assessments. It transpires that teachers were later informed that through the results of this assessment, they are able to identify the “good from the bad” teachers. The Union stated that, to add insult to injury, it has been informed that someone is even taking the liberty to go to schools and instruct the head on who should teach which class. The MUT asked the Director to investigate this unacceptable situation with urgency. In the mean time the Union is directing members to refrain from taking any instructions from the Church’s literacy team, whoever this might include.
In a reply, the Director state that she will delve into the matter and get back.
