Graduation date/time issue for PGCE and Diploma Facilitating Inclusive Education
The MUT wrote to the Minister for Education and Employment and the Rector of the University of Malta to highlight its disappointment with the date and time chosen for the graduation ceremony for PGCE and Diploma Facilitating Inclusive Education, which is at 1.30pm on the 25th of November – a change in date forced due to CHOGM related activities. The Union noted that this date and time mean that all graduates in both courses will need to leave their duties for a whole day to attend this ceremony, not to mention the impossibility of finding parking at the University campus at that particular time of day. In light of this, the MUT asked the Minister and the Rector to look into the matter with urgency. The Union also asked the Ministry to make sure that if the date and time are not changed, graduates and their attending relatives who are employees in its schools or in Church Schools should be allowed to attend this ceremony without having their special leave deducted.
In a reply, the Minister stated that he can understand MUT’s concern and would like to find a way of addressing the issue adequately. The Rector also confirmed that the University will try its best to fix the issue.
