Issues with the Reading Recovery Programme
The MUT is currently in correspondence with the National Literacy Agency regarding issues being experienced by educators enrolled in the Reading Recovery Programme. Members have noted that during this period of online teaching, the agency has asked participating teachers to do an excessive number of sessions with students, live lessons which cannot be enforced (in line with the task force directions), a stipulated number of students participating in all sessions which is not under the control of educators, and other issues. The threatening tone that if teachers do not comply there shall be a breach of the training contract is unwelcome and unacceptable, particularly in this time when many things are beyond the educator’s control. The MUT asked the agency to take the necessary action before the MUT directs members.
