Tougher penalties for crimes committed in or near schools
The MUT has asked for a meeting with the Minister for Education and Employment and the Minister for Justice, Culture and Local Government to discuss the issue of security in schools following the latest incident and the information that the Government is considering reviewing the law to provide for tougher penalties in crimes committed in or in the proximity of schools. The MUT believes this is a step in the right direction, along with other measures related to security in schools as it has been advocating for many years. In a reply, both Ministers agreed to hold this meeting. The MUT will update members on this issue accordingly.
