The MUT wins the libel against UPE at the Courts of Appeal
In a sentence by Judge Lawrence Mintoff following the appeal filed by MUT, the court of appeal issued a decree which overturned the previous judgement on the libel case against UPE and ruled in favour of MUT. The court of appeal ordered UPE to pay a compensation to MUT. This sentence followed the libel proceedings filed by MUT against UPE during the negotiations of the sectoral agreement following a series of false and defamatory public claims made by UPE to derail negotiations. Negotiations proceeded nonetheless, leading to a successful conclusion of the MUT’s sectoral agreement.
Today’s judgement is clear and unequivocal, effectively ruling in favour of MUT’s stance and its claims about the defamatory statements made by UPE. The MUT was represented by its Officials and lawyers Dr Keith Borg and Dr Rebecca Mercieca.
