MUT shares disappointment of Gozitan Educators upon the decision to convert school to museum
The Malta Union of Teachers is highly disappointed that the Government has proceeded with its plans to convert a dilapidated block in the school complex of Victoria, previously housing a school, to a museum. This decision was taken despite the pressing need to relocate the Primary school of Victoria to a modern and adequate building. In spite of representations made by the MUT and educators with the respective Ministry, the Government seems adamant to proceed with its plans to relegate the current Middle School building to a smaller area and use the already limited open space facilities to extend the middle school building to house also the primary school.
The MUT reiterates that both the middle school and primary school students and educators deserve proper educational facilities and not ‘extensions’ of existing buildings with limited facilities and the necessary open space to provide a good educational experience to students. The MUT is reiterating its appeal to the Government to consider the plea of educators and to rethink the decision to extend the middle school but to build instead a new primary school with the necessary facilities.
