Statement by the MUT on the bullying incident reported in the media
The MUT refers to footage involving bullying actions between students as reported by some sections of the media. Based on direct information received regarding the incident, the union would like to clarify the following.
The incident occurred two weeks ago and occurred after school hours and not in the vicinity of the school. The school was informed on the day of the incident and it took all actions required, including involving the Child Protection Services and Police. During the past two weeks, educators and specialised personnel continued to follow the incident with the affected students.
The MUT condemns all bullying actions, whether they are carried out at school or elsewhere, and it supports educators in adopting a zero tolerance approach in such instances. The MUT appeals to the Ministry and to parents to support all efforts by educators in ensuring order and in instilling a climate of positive behaviour whilst taking the necessary disciplinary actions when required.
