Shielding of Pregnant Educators
The MUT has been in discussions with the Ministry for Education and Sport regarding shielding of educators who are pregnant. Whilst it has been confirmed that the shielding protocols of the Health Authorities have been unchanged, the Ministry shall be tackling requests for shielding on a case-by-case basis.
To this effect, educators in State Schools may request shielding based on their certified medical situation during pregnancy. Whilst such requests necessitate processing through the medical board, the union has been assured that the process shall be expedited. Requests for shielding based on medical certifications from a consultant need to reach the office of the HR at the Ministry for Education and Sport. Requests for shielding from Educators in Church and Independent schools need to be presented to the respective Head of School as per practice already in place. The MUT shall be following the processes.
