UPDATED: MUT to meet Education Minister regarding Skolasajf – requests risk assessments for each centre
The MUT shall be meeting the Minister for Education and Employment, Hon. Owen Bonnici, this week to discuss the Ministry’s proposed opening of Skolasajf. The MUT shall be voicing its concerns regarding the proposed opening, particularly the safeguards being taken to ensure hygiene and social distancing, and thus the well-being of educators and students. Although schools have an obligation for risk assessment to be in place, the MUT is requesting that, given the present COVID-19 situation, a fresh risk assessment is carried out for all schools which shall serve as Skolasajf centres. The MUT is also requesting the introduction of an inspectorate, which shall determine whether centres can be opened in accordance with the established criteria as outlined in the new risk assessment document. This inspectorate should also have the powers to close centres which do not meet the requested criteria.
