MUT and Ministry discuss re-opening of schools scenarios
The MUT and the Ministry for Education and Employment held another meeting to discuss the evolving situation regarding the re-opening of schools. Several meetings shall be held in the coming days to discuss the situation and all scenarios possible. The union shall also be meeting concurrently the Secretariat for Catholic Education and the representatives for independent schools. The first of a series of meetings are planned to be held throughout this week. The MUT shall be issuing the first update to members during the dedicated meetings being held next week. Regarding unfounded rumours related to the MUT and online teaching, everyone knows that last March it was the MUT who called for the schools to close and education to go online, it was the MUT who discussed the way forward with respective employers on online teaching and it was also the MUT who assisted and defended educators when they were adapting to online platforms. The statement that the MUT is against online teaching is therefore either erroneous or disingenuous.
The union appreciates the difficult and complex situation related to the re-opening of schools. The MUT will seek the best education possible while safeguarding the mental and physical well-being of both educators and students.
