Celebrating MUT
The Malta Union of Teachers celebrated the 105th anniversary from its foundation in 1919. The Union teamed up with the Floriana Local Council to celebrate this milestone. Mass was concelebrated at the historic Sarria church in Floriana by Fr Charles Mallia and Fr Jimmy Bartolo. This was followed by a flower laying ceremony at the MUT monument at the Mall garden by MUT Officials and the Floriana Mayor. The activity was concluded with a reception hosted by the Floriana Local Council for Council members, the MUT youth section and the MUT retired educators committee. In his address MUT President Marco Bonnici thanked the Local Council for the collaboration and announced that the Education Ministry confirmed that Floriana Primary school shall continue to carry the name of the MUT founder Antonio Galea. Floriana Mayor Nigel Holland welcomed this decision and outlined the ties between Floriana and the MUT which was founded in the locality. Both MUT and the Local Council expressed the wish to continue this collaboration between the two entities.
