CRPD loses the court case against the MUT
The CRPD et. lost the case in court against the MUT. The court issued the decree on Friday 13th June stating that it cannot accede to the CRPD et. request for a warrant of prohibitory injunction. The CRPD et. and the Ministry of Inclusion mounted an attack on MUT and its members to change current practices in place during examinations in middle and secondary schools. The MUT has been a pioneer in inclusion in Malta and has introduced inclusion in schools through the provision of LSEs and dedicated inclusion programmes well before the enactment of the CRPD or its Ministry. The Union and its members do not expect any appreciation from the CRPD et. or its Ministry – this was never forthcoming. However the Union will not allow anyone to blackmail it with a narrative to portray MUT and its members as insensitive towards students with disabilities. This is not just a win for the MUT – it is a loss for the CRPD et. and the Inclusion Ministry who should know better when enacting a case which holds no grounds against a trade union.
