MUT reply to NCPE statement – School hours and holidays are there to stay
The MUT refers to reports about a conference by NCPE whereby the commission suggested longer school hours and reduction in holidays as one of the proposed measures. The MUT reiterates its position that school hours and holidays are not up for discussion and are there to stay.
The Union reminds NCPE that the MUT has suggested and worked actively towards the provision of pre-school and after school programmes and these services are now widely available to all families who cannot take care of children outside school hours. The Union was expecting NCPE to focus its efforts on improving the services through proposals for improved conditions of work and financials of all personnel working in pre-school and outside school programmes. Ignoring these services and the respective personnel is an insult to the main service provider (FES) and to the private institutions who provide educational programmes outside school hours.
MUT never expected any appreciation from NCPE for the excellent work provided by all educators. However it will not accept disrespect towards all the educators providing excellent services to students and to families during and outside school hours.
