Statement about online teaching beyond COVID-19
The MUT refers to reports in media asserting that online teaching should continue beyond COVID-19. As everyone knows, the MUT has taken a proactive role during the pandemic and the days preceding it, and this led to the smooth shift towards online teaching, particularly due to the huge amount of work that educators did in this respect. The measures taken during this period, which included a total shift towards remote teaching, were necessary in view of the pandemic. However the MUT is hereby making it clear that current online teaching practices, which have been in place for the duration of the pandemic, were a temporary emergency measure and shall not continue to be in place beyond the pandemic without formalising it in an agreement with the MUT. The MUT is not against new specialised online teaching services by dedicated educators and/or entities, but notes that all current practices affect the conditions of work of all educators. In this respect the union is bound to safeguard the interest of its members.
