MUT will not hesitate to issue directives to stop new printing procedures if issues not sorted
The MUT continued to receive reports about a pilot project being held in a limited number of schools which involves a new printing procedure that includes the Government Printing Press. The Union is currently monitoring this pilot project whilst receiving feedback from members. In fact, members have already reported a number of logistical difficulties in the implementation of the new procedures, including added burdens on SMT to coordinate, on teaching grades to scan all documentation needed to be printed and then wait for days for the printouts, and other issues. To add insult to injury, the MUT is informed that a working group set up by the Directorate to analyse the pilot project, apart from not including any Union representative, did not even include any practicing teacher. The MUT believes that if implemented as is this will be a time-consuming procedure which goes against the spirit of what the Directorates should be working on to reduce bureaucracy, especially since there will be changes in sillabi and educators are going to need more immediate printing facilities than usual.
In view of this, the Union has already held initial discussions with the Ministry to address these issues and will be meeting again. However, members should note that the MUT expects that the Ministry properly evaluates the pilot project before extending the system to other schools. The Union will not hesitate to issue a directive for members to ignore the new procedures if issues are not sorted and the system results in added workload or unnecessary bureaucracy as the current indications are showing.
