2026 Budget reaction
Baġit 2026 – Konsolidazzjoni tas-settur edukattiv imma konsultazzjoni li ma serviet għal xejn
Il-baġit tal-2026 għas-settur edukattiv jsaħħaħ ix-xogħol li ġa nbeda fi snin imgħoddija, b’tisħiħ tal-ħidma u t-tħabbira ta’ aktar investiment. Madanakollu, l-MUT tinnota b’diżappunt li l-proposti li għaddiet lill-Gvern waqt il-konsultazzjoni permezz tal-Position Paper tagħha, ma ġewx inklużi fil-baġit ta’ din is-sena.
L-MUT tilqa’ l-investiment li ser ikompli fl-infrastruttura tal-iskejjel, fil-promozzjoni tal-attività fiżika fl-iskejjel u t-tisħiħ tal-programm Family-Community School Link. L-MUT tinnota li dan il-baġit ħabbar l-espansjoni tal-programm Outreach għall-Edukaturi għal dak li ser ikun imsejjaħ bħala Outreach Engagement Programme li ser jitħaddem mill-2026 sal-2030. Il-baġit ħabbar ukoll r-reviżjoni tal-kurrikulu li ser issir bi sħab mal-OECD, u t-tħabbira tal-viżjoni 2030-2050 għal edukazzjoni li hija moderna, inklużiva u innovattiva bbażata fuq riċerka u kollaborazzjoni.
Fir-rigward tal-istudenti u l-familji, l-MUT tilqa’ ż-żieda ta’ 500 Ewro għall-allowance għall-familji bi studenti fil-post-sekondarju, għotja ta’ 500 Ewro għall-familji bi studenti fil-Year 10 u 11 biex tassisti studenti fil-kamp diġitali, kif ukoll id-distribuzzjoni ta’ riżorsi diġitali lil studenti fis-sekondarja, u żieda ta’ 15% fl-istipendji.
Budget 2026 – Consolidation of the education sector but useless consultation
The 2026 budget of the education sector is a continuation of the work done in the past years, with a consolidation of work and the announcement of further investment. However, the MUT notes that feedback provided during the consultation phase through its position paper was not included in this year’s budget.
The MUT welcomes the continued investment in school infrastructure, the promotion of physical activity in schools and the strengthening of the Family-Community School Link programme. The MUT notes that this budget announced the expansion of the outreach programme of educators to an Integrated Outreach Engagement Programme from 2026 to 2030. The budget announced also the revision of the curriculum to be carried with OECD, and the announcement of the vision 2030-2025 for a modern, inclusive and innovative education based on research and collaboration.
With regards to students and families, the MUT welcomes the increase by Eur 500 of the allowance for families with students in post-secondary, the Eur 500 grant to families of students in years 10 and 11 to assists students in digital areas, the distribution of digital resources to students in secondary and the 15% increase in stipends.
